Mission Statement

We are a baptized, forgiven and loved children of God, a people of Promise; we are called, commissioned and empowered by the Holy Spirit to proclaim God's love made visible in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. God calls us together to be a living community, to worship, to learn and to go forth to all others with God's message of hope, healing, compassion and forgiveness

Opportunities for Worship

Morning Worship - 11:00 AM Every Sunday

_ The Sacrament of Holy Communion - Celebrated the First Sunday of each month and all Major Festivals.

_ Special Sunday Evening Worship and Fellowship Times are observed During the Season of Lent.

_ Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Sunrise Services are

observed during Holy Week and Easter.

_ Sunday School for All Ages - 9:45 AM - Every Sunday

_ Communion Instruction and Nurturing Events - Special learning occasions for Parents and Children in association with the reception of First Communion. Usually offered in November and March.

_ Confirmation Ministry - A two and a half year education program of intensive Biblical and theological study and spiritual nurture for all youth entering the 8th grade in preparation for the Affirmation of Baptism and The Rite of Confirmation.

_ CAMPFIRMATION - A week of intensive Biblical, Catechetical and confirmation study and nurture at Lutheridge.

_ Adult Confirmation - A twelve week Adult study of key Biblical texts and a survey of the major doctrines of the Christian Faith as understood from an Evangelical Catholic (Lutheran) Perspective.

_ Jr. and Sr. Choir -Meets every Wednesday evening a 7:00 PM.

_ "Wee Notes" Choir - Includes children age 4 - Grade 5 and meets the 2nd & 3rd Sunday of each month.

_ Vacation Church School - A full week of learning for the Whole Family every summer.

Opportunities for Outreach and Discipleship

Listed below are some of the ways Philadelphia supports ministries of outreach and discipleship through both financial gifts and the offerings of time, talent and labor.

_ Support of the N.C. Lutheran Synod and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America through benevolence giving.

_ Charles and Phyllis MacMurphy, ELCA missionaries in Japan.

_ The Lutheran Support Group of Gaston, Inc. (LSGG) in partnership with Lutheran Family Services in the Carolinas which supports three area Group Homes for troubled youth as well as a Foster Parent Ministry.

_ The Area Lutheran Recycling Ministry in support of World Hunger and the area CROP Walk for hunger at home and around the world.

_ The Dallas / High Shoals Christian Social Ministry.

_ Mission Partner support to our sister congregation, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Gastonia, N.C.

_ Philadelphia is also represented on the Gaston County Health Care

Commission which is exploring the feasibility of parish based nurses across Gaston County.

Organizations and Opportunities for Ministry

_ The Son’s Rays - A Pre youth group for children in grades 2-6 which meets twice a month on Sunday evenings.

_ The Jr.-Sr. Youth Ministry - Youth in grades 7-12 meet twice a month on Sunday evenings.

_ The Women of the ELCA (WELCA) meets the first Tuesday of each month.

_ The Lutheran Men in Mission (LMM) meets periodically to coordinate projects and ministry.

_ Area Lutheran Summer Day Camp in partnership with Antioch & St. Paul’s Lutheran congregations for children Grades 2-6.

_ Cub, Brownie and Girl Scouts meet every week.

_ Line Dancing each week for exercise and recreation Sept. - May.
